Abstract: S-100 protein positive glia of 24 contused rats' beam c was observed at different intervals by immunothistochemical ABC method. The results showed that 2 days aftet contusion S-100 protein positive glia was enlarged with no distinct process. With longer duration of the cerebral contusion, the glia was enlarged and increased markedly and peaked at 5 days. The S-100 protein positive enlarged glia were distributed in periphery of contusive area. It is concluded that the S-100 protein can be used to estimate the time of brain contusion.
