Abstract: It is generally acknowledged at home and abroad that developing latent fingerprints on white paper with ninhydrin and zinc chloride is the most effectice method. Unfortunately, up to now the carrying solvent of the above two reagents fluorisol has not been produced at home, and the imported fluorisol is very expensive and difficult to purchase. The authors of this paper used chloroform to replace fluorisol acting as the carrying solvent of ninhydrin and zinc chloride. The development results between the above two carrying solvents were compared with a large number samples and treated by statistics (P>0.10). Thus, it was verified that chloroform could be used instead of fluorisol serving as the carrying solvent of ninhydrin and zinc chloride. The authors of this paper also used another solvent methanol to replace fluorisol in developing atent fingerprints experiment, and the development results showed that methanol may be used instead of fluorisol too.
