Abstract: It was reported in this paper that 20 cases of sudden, unexpected death, being refferred to our division for medicolegal investigation during the years 1974-90, were identified as that of death from inhibition through thorough postmortem examination to the exclusion of other causes of death. The characteristics and mechanisms of death from inhibition were discussed with literature reviews. It is considered that medicolegal identification of death from inhibition should be cautious enough. Death should have the essential conditions as follows s death following corresponding stimulation,abruptly and with witnesses, exclusive of other causes.
