    It was reported in this paper that 20 cases of sudden, unexpected death, being refferred to our division for medicolegal investigation during the years 1974-90, were identified as that of death from inhibition through thorough postmortem examination to the exclusion of other causes of death. The characteristics and mechanisms of death from inhibition were discussed with literature reviews. It is considered that medicolegal identification of death from inhibition should be cautious enough. Death should have the essential conditions as follows s death following corresponding stimulation,abruptly and with witnesses, exclusive of other causes.

    In the course of the experiments, the author came across that there also exists the natural agglutinin of ABO group system in human saliva. To ascertain whether the agglutinin is universal exising and how about its titer and deteclable time, the author studied the samples of saliva from 20 individuals.

    In view of the poor specificity of the anti-human hemoglobin serum produced by immunizing animal with hemolytic fluid,we used purified hemoglobin as the immunogen and generated anti-human hemoglobin serum; which showed much higer specificity and titer.

    The keratins in hair have been analysed by polyacrylamide gel isoelectric focusing from 15 species of Primates, including the species Homo sapiens. In all patterns obtained from these primate hairs, the bands are different from each species to any other in number or position, or both. The gel scans of keratins given by a laser light densitometer show differences between species as well. The isoelectric focusing of keratins in hair would prove to be useful in identifying hair from human and other primates.

    The hypervarieble minisatellite regions in human, animal and plant genome DNA can be detected by M13 bacteriophage as a probe.Its effective sequence was traced to two clusters of 15-base pair tandem repeats within the gene 3 of the bacteriophage. In this paper we utilized a unipue method of PCR to label M13 phage DNA and yielded a high specific activity. Human DNA digested with Hinfl was hybridized with labelled M13 and 33.15 probes. Highly polymorphic DNA fingerpriuts were obtained witb both of them. A practical casework was tested. (Original article on page 169)

    A gas cliromatography method was described for the determination of active compounds, Δ~9—tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ~9—THC), cannabidol (CBD) and cannabinol (CBN), in Xinjiang Marijuana using lignocerane as internal standard on a 3% OV—17 Glass column.The average recovery was 98.0—103.0%, CV% was less than 5%. The method is simple and accurate.

    Using reflectance microspectrophotometry tech- nique, chromatics analysis for several blue ballpen inks is described.The results show that microchromatism,which eye can not distinguish,can be identified by microspectrophotometry. As the method allows accurate, reliable and nondestructive to inks, it is very useful in questioned document examination.

    The investigation on the distribution of GLO Ⅰ phenotypes was carried out by starch / agarose mixed gel electrophoresis from the populstions of the Han, Yao, Blang, Jino nationalities of Yunan province. Values of GLO1 frequencies of the four nationalities were as follows. Han 0.1367, Yao 0.1300, Blang 0.1696, Jino 0.1731. No variants of GLO Ⅰ were found in this study. The probability of discrimination (Dp) of GLO Ⅰ in the four nationalities were : Han 0.3852, Yao 0.3736, Blang 0.4374, Jino 0.4425.

    Tf subtypes were determined in sera from Taiyuan population using isoelectric focusing. The results were as follows:gene frequencies:TfC=0.7561, TfC=0.2244, TfD = 0.0171;Dp (discriminating probability)=0.5579, Qn(Probability of excluding pertanity) = 0.1650. The Tf polymorphism is high heterozygozity. The difference of distribution of Tf subtypes in Taiyuan population (Han nationality) and that in Caucasian and Negro population is significant.
