Abstract: These variable sites of Y-chromosome are present at high density in the genome.Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms(SNPs)provide a valuable source of genetic markers for determining identity, establishing genetic linkages and predicting/diagnosing diseases. They are also found widespread application to the forensic medicine. This report mainly describe the SNPs and Y-chromosome SNPs characteristics and its potential applications to the forensic medicine.

Key words: Y-chromosome, haplotype, SNPs
