Abstract: Genetic polymophism of Soluble glutamic-pyruvic fransminase(GPT)was discoverd by Chen and Gib- lett with Starch-gel electrophoresis of human red cells.Three Common phenotypes,designated GPT_1.GPT_(2-1) and GPT_2,were identified and each was thought to be the expression of two alleles Gpt~1 and Gpt~2 at autosomal locus. In this study we have investigated the polymor-phism of GPT in 235 normal unrelated donors living in Shanghai.Enzyme typing was carried out for Starchgel and specific enzyme Staing.The gene frequen- cies of Gpt~1 and Gpt~2 were estimated at 0.5404 and 0.4596.The observed numbers of the phenotypes were in good agreement with the numbers expected under the Hardy-Weinberg equelihrium(x~2=1.9939 0.1
