Abstract

Abstract: The study was to eliminate interference from ephed- rine in the analysis of methamphetamine 。The extractionprocedure for methamphetamine was modified to includean oxidation step （2ml urine specimen was trecimen was treated with 0.5ml of lmol／L phosphate buffer（pH6. 8） and 0.5ml0. 3mol／L sodium periodate）. Results showed that ephed-rinecould be oxidized in the presence of periodare ions in-to smaller fragments while leaving methamphetamine in-tact．It is recommended that specimens be treated with sodium periodate prior to extraction in order to eliminateany interference caused by ephedrine．
